Human donor tumor tissue from early-stage solid tumor cancers typically do not engraft well. That said, just knowing that YourPDX testing is an option from the start can help individuals with cancer and their treating oncologist make informed decisions about the use of tumor tissue upfront.
Note: Biopsies can be invasive procedures, and oncologists will order them only when they are considered medically necessary and feasible. Consequently, tumor tissue is precious and limited. Carefully consider the best use of precious tumor tissue — it may be depleted for other types of effective precision oncology tests or required for participation in clinical trials down the line. However, some clinical trials do wave the biopsy requirement if genetic testing is already done.
